Major Pennant FINAL

Fellow members,

Unfortunately our boys – who were extremely gallant in the humid conditions out at Riverside Oaks – went down 5-2 to a highly credentialled Avondale team in Sunday’s Division 1 Major Pennant Final.

The scoreline does not indicate exactly how close the matches were – with 7 holes to play, St Michael’s held narrow leads in 6 of the 7 games. By the conclusion of the day, 2 matches were decided on the 18th hole and another 3 matches went down to playoff holes (with Marco Nocera’s #7 game going to the 23rd hole when it was ultimately called off).

Whilst the boys are naturally disappointed with Sunday’s outcome, this was still an excellent campaign considering the amount of experience missing at certain points during the season and the new talent which was blooded as a consequence. In 2023, we had a new captain in Daley Loumanis who led the team superbly. Joseph Serhan and Alfie Frain made their debuts (with Joe playing the entire regular season), in addition to Marco Nocera and Alex Radevski playing their first full seasons. Alex finished the regular season undefeated. With the entire team having to shoulder extra responsibility through the course of the season, to travel this far was a fantastic achievement.

The Pennant’s management team would like to thank the following:

Our players – Daley Loumanis, Harrison Crowe, Jeff Pullen, Daniel Kolar, Luke Furlong, Orlando Janschek, Marco Nocera, Alex Radevski, Joey Serhan, Alfie Frain, and Cooper Grant. Also to those boys in the broader squad who didn’t play but supported the team throughout.

Our caddies – Jeff Wagner, Joey Serhan, Loren King, Richard Belcher, Lucas Cannan, Lawrie Furlong, Anthony Romeo, Paul Bolster, Jude Nicholas, Max Jennings, Darren Beck, James Nicholas, Weiliang Wang, John Serhan, and Matt Nicholas.

Our supporters – it was great to see so many members make the long trip to Riverside Oaks on Sunday. In addition to those who have attended games during the season proper and the recent semi-final, the boys are super appreciative of the support.

Our club staff – between the now departed Rob Travis, Jeff Wagner, Neil Sarkies, and Anthony Romeo, the support provided to the team for both home and away fixtures has been phenomenal. We’d like to also acknowledge the hard work from the Pro Shop, Greens Staff, Catering/Bar, and Office staff. The Pennant campaign is made so much easier through all your efforts.

Thank you

The Management Team
